Indian airlines cut faresA number of airlines in India have reduced airfares for domestic and international travel to ring in the new year, it has been reported.

Kingfisher Airlines is the latest carrier to cut its domestic fares - with reductions averaging between 21 per cent and 56 per cent effective from January 1st.

It follows Jet Airways and state-run Air India, both of which have also made cuts to their airfares this week.

Basic fares offered by Air India have been reduced by up to 82 per cent, the Press Trust of India reported.

Meanwhile, Jet Airways is offering a number of incentives, including discounted travel costs for people departing from London and New York who book their flights at least two weeks in advance.

On other routes, the airline is offering free companion travel.

According to IndianHoliday.com, domestic airlines and Indian railways are the best way to travel between cities and states, although shorter journeys can be taken by buses and taxis.Meet the editors...
