India, Thailand and South Africa in top ten adventure listHolidaymakers have voted for their top ten countries in terms of adventure travel, it has emerged.

Thailand came second on the list, no doubt thanks to its popularity with adventurous backpackers, beaten only by Egypt.

Meanwhile, India ranked sixth - up four places since last year's figures - and South Africa came in ninth position.

Todd McClamroch, chief executive of iExplore which carried out the poll, remarked: "We continue to see the many of the World Wonders on our list of top destination including the Pyramids in Egypt, Machu Picchu in Peru, the Taj Mahal of India and the Great Wall of China."

Marriage therapist Marilyn Barnicke Belleghem recently told America's Hitched magazine that taking adventure holidays together could help couples to strengthen their relationships.

National Geographic magazine recommends Chiang Mai in Thailand as the gateway to some of the country's best inland adventures, including elephant trekking, white-water rafting and mountain biking.
