April 14th marks Baisakhi or Vaisakhi, the new solar year for Hindus and the anniversary of the founding of the brotherhood for Sikhs, What's on When attests, allowing visitors to experience two different cultural celebrations.

Hindus gather along the banks of the Ganges, while fireworks, parades and feasting go on in cities all over Tamil Nadu.

For Sikh, the affair is generally much quieter, but the website suggests that tourists keep an eye open for men performing traditional bhangra dancing.

"It tells the story of the agricultural process, from tilling the soil through to harvesting," it comments.
