Holidays to India to get more eco-friendlyAnyone wishing to go on an ecotourism break could consider a holiday in India and the state of Jammu and Kashmir in particular.

According to the tourism and culture minster Nawang Rigzin Jora, Jammu and Kashmir is to become a hub for sustainable travel when it puts an initiative into place that aims to reduce the impact of tourism on the region's natural habitats.

He said that industry stakeholders will be strongly encouraged to look after the environment for future generations and to stop "selfish human interference".

"We have to create a balance between tourism and [the] environment so that this vital industry becomes sustainable in the long run," Mr Jora remarked.

Located in the northernmost part of India, Jammu and Kashmir state is made up of cold deserts, temperate valleys and sub-tropical forests, all of which contain a variety of flora and fauna.

Much of the state consists of the western Himalayas, which are popular for adventure travel holidays and wildlife observation, according to the Jammu and Kashmir state government website.
