Holidaymakers urged to check travel insurance conditionsAnyone going on holiday in the coming weeks has been urged to check that they are adequately covered by their insurance policy.

This is the advice of Christian Young, spokesperson for the AA, who told the Telegraph that the cost of treatment abroad is soaring, with an air ambulance from Europe costing £10,000.

He pointed out that skiers could be particularly vulnerable, with 300,000 people hurt on the slopes every year.

"This is why it is so important to check your policy before you leave," he said, adding that holidaymakers should check they are covered for winter sports before participating.

However, checking the small print is equally important on sunshine breaks. According to the Lancashire Evening Post, a woman recently heard that she will not be repaid the £6,000 she spent on medical expenses after falling from a climbing wall in Mexico because she had used the facility outside its opening hours.
