Finn Air celebrates 85th birthdayToday (March 20th) marks the 85th anniversary of the first flight undertaken by Finn Air, the company has announced.

Back in 1924, a Junkers F13 aircraft took off from Helsinki to Estonia, marking the maiden voyage of the carrier.

During the course of that year, the company carried approximately 269 people.

However, the business has expanded somewhat since then and 8.3 million passengers were serviced by Finn Air in 2008, said the firm's senior vice-president of communications, Christer Haglund.

He added that Finn Air is proud of its long history, but that it hopes to have a similarly long future in place for passengers to enjoy.

The company has launched a book called Departure 2093 to commemorate the anniversary, which speculates on the future of air travel.

Back to the present day, Finn Air offers services to a network of 15 domestic and 55 international destinations, including flights to Delhi, Bangkok and Mumbai.
