Fly to Mumbai for some tropical madness in MayMumbai in May is "abuzz with excitement" in anticipation of a fruity summer festival, an event guide site has said.

"Ask any Mumbaiker what he is most looking forward to about summertime and invariably the answer is Alphonso mangos," wrote WhatsOnWhen.

Travellers heading on holiday to India will be able to witness the sights, smells and tastes of the annual Mumbai Mango Madness Festival.

Alphonso mangos are grown in an old-fashioned method by farmers who take their profession very seriously, the site continued.

The fruits are left to mature on beds of hay in purpose-built mud huts until they are sweet and succulent.

Holidaymakers flying to Mumbai are recommended to head to the Crawford Market - which is 130 years old - to try out India's "king of the fruits".

The month-long festival comes to an end as the monsoon season begins in June.

According to India Tourism, the best times to head to Mumbai are between May and June and then October to March. Meet the editors...
