India is getting set to host one of its "most impressive festivals" in June, according to an events guide, which people flying to Delhi or Mumbai may wish to experience while on a holiday to the country.

Puri - a 12th century temple town on the Bay of Bengal - attracts hundreds and thousands of visitors from across the sub-continent for the festival of Rath Yatra in June.

This year the event will take place on June 24th and it will see the image of the Hindu god Krishna carried through the streets of the town for two kilometres in an "awesome procession", wrote WhatsOnWhen.

The image and those of Krishna's brother and sister Balarama and Subhadra are pulled through the town in three 45-foot-high yellow chariots.

According to Puri's tourism site, the area - located on the coastline of Orissa - benefits from having the same climate year-round and attracts a variety of migrating birdlife. Meet the editors...
