Include a trip to Kashmir on a holiday to IndiaTravellers flying to India may wish to head to the forgotten tourist hotspot of Kashmir, a travel company has said.

"Kashmir was once a tourist haven; visitors flocked to its alpine meadows, beautiful lakes and spiky mountains to escape the summer heat of the lower lying lands," wrote Skyscanner.

It went on to say that visitors are now returning to witness the "pristine landscapes" of the region.

The site recommends staying in a house boat on the Dal Lake - which has played host to many a celebrity in the past, including Michael Palin, George Harrison from the Beatles and Nelson Rockefeller.

Located in the valleys of two Himalayan mountain ranges, the region benefits from spectacular landscapes.

Jammu and Kashmir Tourism states some of the most popular activities in the resort include angling for rainbow trout, golfing at 2,700 m above sea-level and water-skiing in the mountain lakes.

The summer season in the region runs from mid-May until late August. Meet the editors...
