Emirates announces increase in flights to IndiaDubai-based airline Emirates has announced an expansion in the number of flights to India in the hope to help attract millions more visitors to the country in 2010.

Some 22 new flights per week will be added by the airline in a bid to support the Indian government's plans to attract some 100 million travellers next year.

"Emirates has a robust global network spanning over 100 cities in more than 60 countries and is well-placed to connect India to the world," said Majid Al Mualla, vice-president of the airline.
Currently, Emirates flies to ten different Indian destinations and its weekly flights to the country will increase from 163 to 185, the carrier stated.

Ahmedabad, Kozhikode, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and Kolkata - high demand routes - will be the "chief beneficiaries" of the expansion.

Travellers taking a holiday in India in July may wish to catch the celebrations of the birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama in Dharamsala taking place on the 6th of the month. Meet the editors...
