People who travel without sufficient holiday insurance are paying out unnecessary costs.

Britons lose "millions" due to lack of insurance

Travelling without sufficient holiday insurance is not the right way to make cutbacks on a break, one travel spokesperson has said.

"Every year, Britons lose millions of pounds in unforeseen medical and hospital costs whilst abroad. This is due to not having comprehensive travel insurance cover," explained Alistair Daly, marketing director at On the Beach.

He went on to say that the company "highly recommends" taking out a fully comprehensive travel policy when booking a trip.

Research carried out by Post Office Travel Services found that 23 per cent of Brits were considering giving up insurance to save money on their holiday.

Mr Daly added that "thousands of great deals" were still available for travel this summer and an alternative way to lower the cost could be reducing the number of days away from 14 to 11 or 12.

According to the Office for National Statistics, some 69 million foreign holidays were taken by Britons in 2008. Meet the editors...
