The weak pound may be a worry for some holidaymakers, but one expert has offered tips on how to get around it.

People booking cheap flights to Dubai, India and Australia may like to take the advice of one industry insider on how they can get the best distance from their holiday funds as the pound struggles against foreign currencies.

According to Peter Harrison, travel money expert at MoneySupermarket.com, British travellers searching for somewhere to change their pounds over should head to a bureau such as Travelex or even book their money online first and pick it up at the airport before they fly.

Another trip from the expert is to use pre-paid cards while on holiday.

"They offer very competitive exchange rates on pre-paid cards, the likes of FairFX and CaxtonFX. It's an alternative source," he advises.

These tips may come in useful over the coming months, as Mr Harrison adds that the pound may not be likely to pick up in the immediate future.

"I think it will probably remain fairly flat from where it is at the moment," he predicts.

According to figures from x-rates.com, the euro currently stands at 1.083 against the pound, down from the monthly average rate of 1.506 in January 2007 prior to the economic downturn.
