Ten of India's hotels 'among the world's favourites'

Ten hotels in India have made it on to a list of the world's favourites, it has emerged.

Travellers booking their cheap flight to India may be pleased to learn that the country boasts some of the world's most beloved hotels.

According to this year's annual global Expedia Insiders' Select list, which is now in its third year, the Oberoi Grand in Kolkata scored top among the accommodation options in the country.

Other Indian hotels to make an appearance in the global list include Agra's Oberoi Amarvilas, the Shangri-La Hotel in New Delhi and Goa's Lemon Tree in the beach resort of Amarante.

The Oberoi in Mumbai also featured and could be a great accompaniment to cheap flights to India.

Managing director of Expedia for Asia Pacific Arthur Hoffman said: "The fact that ten Indian hotels have their presence on this year's Insiders' Select list confirms our belief that India offers world-class accommodation."

Meanwhile, those planning cheap holidays in India may be tempted to visit the north-west state of Rajasthan, which has been recommended by In2Town lifestyle magazine and described as a "beautiful" destination.
