Passengers booking flights to Australia could be pleased to know that Lufthansa aims to re-launch its in-flight internet next year.

In-flight internet to be offered by Lufthansa

Lufthansa aims to make long-haul trips, such as flights to India, pass more quickly with the re-launch of FlyNet, its on-board internet service.

The carrier has linked up with Panasonic in a bid to become the world leader in in-flight connectivity.

Internet use is not the only method of communication that Lufthansa intends to introduce on its flights, as FlyNet will also allow passengers to send text messages via mobile phone.

There will be a range of different price options available, from an hourly rate to a monthly flat rate for frequent fliers.

FlyNet uses WLAN internet access, which works in a similar way to Wi-Fi, allowing passengers to log on from anywhere in the aircraft cabin.

Wolfgang Mayrhuber, chief executive officer and chairman of Lufthansa, commented: "On long-haul routes, we offer business travellers, in particular, a range of communications options on a par with those available at powerful hotspots or upmarket hotels."

Lufthansa offers flights all over the world to destinations including Chennai in India, Perth in Australia and Cape Town in South Africa.
