River tours a wonderful way to experience IndiaThose planning holidays to India may be interested to know about some of the river tours on offer in the country.

Travel journalist Gabriella La Breton has chosen two of India's rivers among some of the best in the world to travel down.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph about a tour down the River Ganges, she said: "To travel along this waterway from the heaving city of Kolkata is to sample a wonderful slice of India."

She also selected a trip down the Brahmaputra as another option for those visiting the country. This river stretches for 3000 km, originating in Tibet before entering India in the eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and flowing on to the Bay of Bengal.

The itinerary on this trip typically includes an elephant ride as well as visits to a number of riverside villages.

Other rivers to make it onto her list include the Murray River in Australia and the Nile in Egypt.
