Indian frozen river trek top tip for adventure breakA frozen river trek in India was one of the suggestions for an adventure holiday in a list compiled by travel experts for the Guardian.

The trek, which leads into the remote Zanskar region in northern India, offers travellers an opportunity to walk a route that has been used by tradesmen for hundreds of years.

Snow buries the road into the area during the winter months, leaving the frozen Zanskar River as the only option for those wishing to reach the region.

Tourists now have the chance to walk the 55-mile journey, called the Chadar.

Highlights along the way include Buddhist monasteries built into cliff walls and the chance to visit isolated village communities.

The Lonely Planet describes the Zanskar valley in winter as "at its most beautiful and uncrowded".

Experts selected this trek as the third in a list of 25 top tips for adventure holidays next year.
