Travellers planning to visit World Heritage sites on their trips may able to help with their conservation through a TripAdvisor campaign.

TripAdvisor launches World Heritage site campaign

TripAdvisor has launched a campaign in conjunction with Unesco to help preserve World Heritage sites all around the globe.

Visitors to these unique attractions, such as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia or the Taj Mahal in India, are being asked to write reviews about the sites they see in order to build up a picture of their condition.

It is hoped that the information gathered through the travel community website will improve the protection offered to World Heritage sites.

Unesco needs information about as many of sites as possible, from iconic locations such as the Uluru-Kata Tjuta national park in Australia to the lesser-known but equally important sites including the churches and convents of Goa, India and the iSimangaliso wetland park in South Africa.

At the start of the campaign, TripAdvisor released a survey which found that 81 per cent of Britons have visited a World Heritage site and that 98 per cent of British respondents felt it was important to protect sites of historical, natural and cultural significance.
