Holidays to India 'offer balance'

Tourists taking holidays to India are increasingly looking to balance a city break with trips to the countryside, one expert claims.

Holidays to India offer balancePeople booking holidays to India are increasingly aiming to split their time in the country between its modern and traditional areas.

Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, believes that travellers are beginning to explore the different sides of India.

"More and more people are going to see the modern India as well as the traditional India," he said.

This is helped by the number of new hotels opening in city centres such as in Delhi and Mumbai, Mr Hall claimed.

He added that tourists are no longer booking a holiday to one location and staying there.

"Modern hotels are opening up in city centres and people might balance that with wanting to go and explore some of Goa, go up the Himalayas or go to the hill staions," Mr Hall commented.

Qatar Airways announced last month that it was continuing its expansion in India and is now offering non-stop flights between Doha and Goa.

The airline added the route in order to capitalise on the winter holiday season as India is still proving particularly popular with European holidaymakers.
