Goa picked as a top spot for a winter sun bargainThe Indian destination of Goa is among a list published in the Times that suggests some bargain breaks.

Casa Colvale is one hotel picked by the publication as offering competitive rates with high-end service.

The hotel is set back from the beach by the River Chapora, making it a relaxing and quiet alternative to the coastal resorts that holidaymakers usually head for.

Describing its location, the Times says: "It's out on its own in a lazy, unchanging world of backwaters and jungle-clad islets."

According to the newspaper, its peaceful nature is the attraction, with little to do other than lie in the sun, watch crocodiles and observe the buffalo taking their daily swim in the river.

Interestingly, the hotel was initially constructed as a private home for Shelia Dhody, the hotel group's owner, but she eventually decided to share it with the wider world and converted it to its present incarnation.

This boutique hotel recently appeared in an article in the Guardian, when travel journalist Gemma Bowes went in search of a relaxing experience in Goa's jungles.
