Goa 'an exotic winter break'

Travellers looking for a spot of winter sun may be tempted to take holidays to India, an industry body has stated.

Anyone hoping to escape to the sun this winter may be looking to more exotic and far-flung destinations, a travel expert has claimed.

Sean Tipton, spokesperson for ABTA – The Travel Association, commented that the southern hemisphere draws travellers in with the prospect of experiencing their summer during the western winter.

"This is the time of year that people tend to go to more exotic destinations – for example, Goa in India," he said.

However, Mr Tipton advised anyone taking a trip outside Europe to check the guidance relating to vaccinations prior to travel, preferably at least eight weeks ahead of leaving.

Research released last month by Post Office Travel Insurance found that 56 per cent of tourists are not aware which countries they require vaccines or medication for.

The company described its findings as "worrying" and stressed that many holidaymakers could risk invalidating their insurance policies if they are not sufficiently protected before they travel.
