Goa a perfect spot for relaxationBooking flights to Goa and exploring some of the destination's hidden beaches could be the best way to escape a hectic lifestyle, it has been claimed.

Journalist Nick Rufford explained that the laid-back and empty beaches that drew travellers to the destination in the 60s and 70s can still be found if you are prepared to hunt around.

Writing in the Times, he advised heading north towards the Chapora River for holidaymakers seeking long sandy beaches without another person in sight.

Mr Rufford said that there is plenty to occupy any traveller in the resorts further south, but once you reach Morjim you can find the peace and quiet that Goa was once famous for.

"From here on north, you can discover the kind of peace that made those early travellers stay for years," he noted.

According to the state's tourism website, Goa is known by a variety of names, including "Rome of the East" and "Tourist Paradise".
