People are beginning to travel more extensively following the end of the recession, one tourism expert has stated.

People are travelling more, expert claims

Brits are increasingly seeking holidays abroad, with many booking flights to Thailand for a sunny escape for example, it has been claimed.

Ian Bradley, spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), explained that tourists are feeling less constrained in their travel options since the worldwide economic situation has improved.

"People are definitely travelling more as the global recession eases and people feel confident to travel more," he stated.

Mr Bradley noted that many British tourists will be able to find bargain breaks, if they look in the right places.

He suggested areas such as the Middle East, where there are large numbers of hotel rooms and also Europe as the exchange rate between the pound and the euro improves.

A survey carried out by the AITO and Wanderlust travel magazine found that many Brits are becoming more optimistic about their holiday prospects for the year ahead.

Researchers found that 83 per cent of those polled intend to take at least as many trips in 2010 as they did in the previous 12 months, compared with 77 per cent who gave this answer in May 2009.
