People who are looking for a different kind of Indian holiday may be interested to learn about a remote surfing location on the country's coast.

Anyone who has booked flights to Goa or Bangalore should be able to find their way to Karnataka, where a unique surfing experience awaits, according to one travel journalist.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Ed Templeton explained that the relaxed atmosphere at the small ashram makes for an unusual and enjoyable break.

He stressed that one of the things that makes this location so special is its isolation, with only four guests allowed to stay at the Krishna ashram at a time.

Describing a day's activities, Mr Templeton said: "We surf early, before the heat of the day saps our energy and we have the six-mile stretch of palm-fringed, pale powdery beach to ourselves."

Other attractions in the region include a number of world heritage sites, such as those at Hampi and Pattadakkal, as well as striking stone and cave temples which are also located in the state.
