ABTA pledges support for tourists

ABTA - The Travel Association has launched its first manifesto detailing its intentions within the tourism industry.

People who book cheap flights often face a dilemma when paying for their journey due to regulations about support and assistance should the carrier face financial difficulties.

One of the key issues addressed in the manifesto published by ABTA - The Travel Association on March 10th aims to provide more support to travellers.

It stated that work needs to be done to "reform consumer protection for holidays, flights and accommodation to ensure that all the travelling public are protected".

The announcement could provide additional peace of mind to anyone booking trips and travelling on flights to India, for example.

Under the current system run by the Civil Aviation Authority, only tourists who book through an Air Travel Organiser's License (ATOL)-certified company will receive full protection should an airline collapse.

ATOL helps holidaymakers find alternative travel arrangements should they be abroad at the time or provides a refund to those who have yet to start their holidays.
