Air France operates first 'green flight'

Anyone booking cheap flights with Air France may be pleased to learn that the carrier is taking steps to become more environmentally friendly.

Travellers who are always on the lookout for cheap flights but who would like to be more environmentally friendly may be interested in the latest initiative from Air France.

On April 6th, the carrier operated the first optimised transatlantic flight, which was specifically designed to cut noise and emissions levels.

The airline introduced procedures to make the plane more energy efficient during the nine-and-a-half-hour flight to Miami from Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport.

Fuel consumption was reduced in a number of ways, therefore cutting carbon dioxide emissions.

Among the changes to the flight were shorter taxiing times at both airports and ensuring that the optimum altitude and speed were always achieved during the cruising phase of the journey.

The flight was part of Air France's sustainable development week, which kicked off on April 1st.

Holidaymakers who are concerned about the environmental impact of flying may be encouraged by the airline's commitment to reducing its emissions and improving the green credentials of its aircraft.
