Shimla opens historic landmark to touristsPeople who are travelling to India on flights to Amritsar may want to think about adding a visit to Shimla to their itinerary.

Asian Lite reported that the city's Gaiety Theatre has now been opened to the public on a daily basis, allowing visitors to take in its architecture and design.

Constructed more than 120 years ago, the Gaiety Theatre has often been the venue for plays which attract plenty of attention.

However, this is the first time that the building has been opened to the public during the day when no shows are taking place.

Prem Sharma, state language and culture department director, explained to IANS that the theatre has been opened in this way "to showcase the rich heritage of Gaiety Theatre".

People on holidays to India who want to visit the historic landmark can do so from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 20:00 (local time).

Other attractions that can be found in and around this hill station in Himachal Pradesh include Prospect Hill - which boasts a hilltop temple - as well as the state museum and library and Viceregal Lodge, a building constructed by the British in the 19th century.
