Jet Airways to run additional flights to MumbaiAnyone who has been affected by the volcanic eruption which grounded flights across much of northern Europe for six days could be relieved to hear that one carrier is offering extra services.

Jet Airways has announced that it will run additional flights to Mumbai from London Heathrow, as well as return trips to the British capital, to help passengers that were stranded as a result of the natural disaster.

The carrier has also started running its usual flights to Delhi and Mumbai from London.

Additionally, services to the United States and Canada from India will resume as normal, with the airline once again able to stop at its hub in Brussels en route.

The news comes as airlines across Europe begin trying to clear the backlog of flights that built up over the six days in which planes were grounded across the continent.

More than 95,000 flights were cancelled as a result of the volcanic eruption in Iceland, which created an ash cloud, leading to safety concerns about operating aircraft.
