Tourists book flights to India in search of snowPeople who would rather spend their holidays on the slopes than lounging on a beach have been heading to the Indian region of Himachal, it has been revealed.

Representatives from the tourism industry in Shimla have stated that there has been an increase in the number of travellers arriving in the region following a recent spell of snowfall, Asian Lite reported.

Yogesh Behl, general manager of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, told IANS that the surge in arrivals is due to falling temperatures in the area, which had been experiencing unusually hot weather.

"This weekend, around 50,000 tourists are expected to reach most of the tourist spots in the state," he noted.

Anyone arriving on flights to Mumbai may decide to make the journey to the Himalayan region to see the snowfall for themselves.

Last week, the news agency reported that an additional train service between Kalka and Shimla will be run to accommodate the tourists who travel to the area during the peak season.
