New Goa airport given the green lightThose taking cheap flights to Goa will soon have a choice of airports at which to land after plans to construct a second international hub were approved.

According to Travelbizmonitor.com, the state government has acquired land to build the new airport, which should be in full operation by 2014.

As well as plans to construct the hub, a proposal has been passed which will see the existing airport in Dabolim expanded to accommodate the growing number of people taking cheap flights to Goa.

Swanpil Naik, director of tourism, said that both plans are exciting and that the new airport will bring many benefits to the area.

"The new airport will enhance easy access to the state for both international and domestic travellers and will further benefit the tourism industry," he told the news provider.

Louise Newton, PR and marketing manager of Somak holidays, recently stated that Goa is an increasingly popular destination for those seeking winter sun breaks.
