The pre-holiday a new travel trendA rising number of people are booking time off work before traditional holidays such as Christmas in order to get rested ahead of the festive season, according to travel industry professionals.

Marie Claire magazine reported that many women are booking week-long escapes such as yoga retreats or boot camps in the autumn months, with one advocate calling it a "sensible solution".

She told the publication: "Christmas and New Year might mean time off work, but with all the parties, not to mention cooking for friends and family, it doesn't really feel like a holiday."

Marie Claire suggested an eco-chic spa break could be a perfect way to relax and unwind on a pre-holiday.

A yoga retreat may be another great way to get rid of any pre-Christmas tension and India is an ideal destination to consider.

Many yoga travel programmes are based in Kerala, Goa and Rishikesh and there are breaks to suit individuals and groups who are looking for an authentic yoga experience.
