Skytrax awards honour Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways has received several accolades at this year's Skytrax Airline Awards.

People who have booked flights to Dubai with Qatar Airways may be interested to learn that the carrier has been named as one of the top three international airlines at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2010.

The company also received the title of best airline in the Middle East for the fifth consecutive year.

For those who want to splash out on their flights to Dubai, it could be worth upgrading to business class, after Qatar Airways also received the award for providing the world's best service in this category.

Chief executive officer at the organisation Akbar Al Baker said that being named as one of the top airlines in the world is a "huge achievement".

He added: "It is extremely gratifying to be honoured with these achievements, which recognise the outstanding efforts of our employees in the air and on the ground."

Another international airline to pick up awards from Skytrax was Thai Airways.

The Asian carrier won the best airport services and best airline lounge - first class awards at the ceremony.

Winning a Skytrax award is important for airlines because they are voted for by passengers, with more than 18 million air travellers taking part in this year's poll.
