Solo travel 'could be getting more popular'

Half of British holidaymakers would choose to go it alone, a new survey has found.

Solo travel could be getting more popular

Brits could increasingly be booking flights to Egypt and other destinations on their own.

This is according to a survey carried out by Leger Holidays, which found that half of UK holidaymakers would opt to travel solo and Post Office Travel Insurance has subsequently reminded people to take out insurance before a trip.

Female respondents to the poll were more wary about going it alone, due to worries over safety and security, the research found.

However, those who stated that they would take a break on their own added that their relationship status would not necessarily affect their decision.

Post Office Travel Insurance explained that purchasing comprehensive cover is vital, whether people are jetting off solo or in a group.

Earlier this month, travel editor of the Independent Simon Calder urged tourists to talk to locals while on a break.

He noted that people are usually happy to help and that asking locals where to go and what to see should be the "first rule" on any trip.
