The Taj Mahal in Agra still sees a large number of visitors, despite the high temperatures of the Indian summer.

Taj Mahal attracts visitors all year round

People booking flights to Delhi will no doubt intend to visit the Taj Mahal during their trip to the city.

While there is no doubt that the landmark is worth seeing, the hot summer temperatures had previously discouraged travellers from visiting at this time of year.

But now tourism officials in the area have noticed that the summer heat is no longer deterring people from making the trip.

Surendra Sharma, president of the Hotels and Restaurants Association of Agra, told Asian Lite that over the past few years "we have been noticing that there is hardly any lean season".

"This calls for a new strategy to address the challenge posed by the heat in Agra to make the tourists' stay comfortable," he added.

Between the summer months of April and July temperatures in the city can reach over 50 degrees C and are regularly in the 40s during the day.

Constructed out of white marble between 1631 and 1648, the Taj Mahal has been listed as a Unesco world heritage site since 1983.
