Travellers 'want deeper experiences'

Holidaymakers are looking for more when they book flights and holidays, one travel expert has claimed.

Travellers want deeper experiencesTourists jetting off on their summer breaks are seeking more from the travelling experience.

This is according to Alexander Lyons, PR executive for responsibletravel.com, who explained that travellers want "more authentic, richer, deeper experiences".

He noted that people are increasingly turning to responsible holidays in order to find this kind of trip.

"They want better holidays for their money and responsible tourism offers them that sense of place and that story behind the destination," Mr Lyons added.

As well as selecting sustainable accommodation and destinations, travellers are being urged to take the environment into consideration wherever they visit.

The Travel Foundation has launched a campaign to "make holidays greener". The organisation aims to encourage more people to carry out simple environmentally-friendly actions while away.

A recent survey by the foundation found that almost half of Brits admit to forgetting about their environmental responsibilities while they are away.

It claims that simple actions, such as turning off lights and recycling bottles and cans, can make a big difference to local surroundings.
