New terminal opens at Delhi airportThose taking advantage of cheap flights to Delhi may find themselves arriving in style at a brand new £2 billion terminal at the city's international airport.

Hailing the start of a "new India", prime minister Manmohan Singh said the new airport terminal shows that India is "committed to joining the ranks of modern industrialised nations".

Terminal 3 will begin to accept international passengers on July 14th and the first flight to arrive there is due to be an Air India journey from New York.

Commenting on the opening of the terminal, the Guardian said that prior to its opening, the structure hosted seven days of religious ceremonies in which 300 priests were involved.

Giving an idea of the size of the new terminal, it noted "it is bigger than Terminal Four in Madrid and T5 at Heathrow, but smaller than the terminal in Beijing opened to welcome visitors to the 2008 Olympics".

Emriates recently announced it will fly one of its A380 jets to the airport later this month to celebrate the opening of the new terminal.
