India leads Asias tourist boom India featured at the recent World Travel Awards Asia and Australasia – picking up 11 out of a possible 47 awards.

Those planning to take flights to Delhi may be interested to discover that three hotels in the city were rated top in their categories - Trident Gurgaon, Taj Palace and Radisson NH-8.

Taj Palace's general manager Taljinder Singh told India's Mail Today: "It is a big achievement to win this award second time in a row. Next year we'll try to win the best in the world title."

India was also named as Asia's best destination – beating competition from Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Phuket, Tokyo and Sri Lanka.

The World Travel Awards are based on a secret ballot system, with votes from more than 183,000 travellers and industry figures.

The Taj Palace in New Delhi has more than 400 rooms and 40 suites plus a nine-hole golf course, fitness centre, shopping mall and in-room wireless internet access.
