SriLankan Airlines is increasing its current flights to India following additional demand.

The airline is hoping to improve connectivity with a number of Indian cities by providing more flights to Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. Flights to Mumbai will increase to ten per week, while flights to Chennai will rise to 15 flights every seven days.

SriLankan Airlines' head of worldwide sales Mohamed Fazeel said: "We are expanding our operations to India. Our aim is to provide several flights a day to all major cities there to allow travellers to choose which time of day they would prefer to fly."

He added that the airline is planning to add further flights on each route in 2011.

The company also revealed plans to purchase seven more aircraft next year, including five Airbus A320s.

Formed in 1979, SriLankan Airlines flies to 49 destinations in 31 countries, with its main hub located at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.
