A car hire firm is promoting the attractions of a self-drive holiday in India.

A car hire firm is promoting the attractions of a self-drive holiday in India.

Avis India is working with Ford India to market and raise awareness about the benefits of seeing India by vehicle.

The company is offering those taking flights to India the opportunity to hire a Ford Endeavour 4x4 to take a trip across the desert.

N Raja, vice president, Sales Ford India explained: "It's an exciting concept and we are happy to strengthen our partnership with Avis. A wider set of consumers can now access and have adventure experience of the true off-roading capabilities and best-in-class driving dynamics and rugged capabilities of the Endeavour."

Each vehicle is fitted with a GPS device, a medical kit and maps.

Avis launched its Himalayan and desert self-drive tours in August and reports strong demand from travellers. The company is also planning to extend the initiative to cover other areas of India including Mumbai.
