India is set to benefit from an increase in hotel rooms over the next three years, claims a new report.

According to a study conducted by property consultancy Knight Frank India, the country's hotel market could increase from 74 billion rupees to 119 billion by 2013 as new properties open up and more people take flights to India.

Growing interest in the city of Mumbai is expected to encourage the greatest increase in the market, followed by New Delhi and the surrounding area.

Shreenath Shastry, national director of the hospitality agency at Knight Frank India, explained that the current number of rooms in the National Capital Region (NCR) is just over 11,000 in all budget sectors.

He added: "By the end of 2013, the NCR hospitality sector is expected to witness a fresh supply of 8727 rooms with 4659 rooms being added up in Delhi."

Svenska Hotels recently announced plans to open at least 25 new hotels in India over the next ten years.
