Many Brits could give themselves a cash boost in the run up to Christmas by exchanging their foreign currency.

Brits storing foreign currency in drawers

People planning to take flights to India and other countries could give their funds a boost by looking for any old foreign currency they have a home.

A study by the Post Office Travel Money has shown there is over £750 million in foreign money in the drawers and wallets of people all over the UK which could be cashed in to give owners a welcome cash bonus in the run-up to Christmas.

Many people will find they have as much as £48 in different currencies they have brought back from overseas trips which can be converted into sterling.

Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money said: "In these cash-strapped times it is surprising to find that so many people are holding onto foreign currency when they could be making it work for them."

Travellers planning to take flights to India for business purposes could be planning to head to Delhi, after it was named the most competitive city in the country.
