Luxury destinations less affected by slowdownPeople who may be worried about the possible effects the economic slowdown is having on holiday destinations could consider visiting a location such as South Africa, which is likely to be less affected than popular package locations.

This is according to a report from the Associated Press, which points out that travellers looking for a once-in-a-lifetime trip are less likely to discard their holiday plans than those who planned to take a last-minute deal.

James Currie, public ambassador for Conservation Corporation Africa - which runs safari day-trips for visitors to the country - said there is still a demand for such holidays.

"Certainly the economic events have affected travel. There's no doubt about that. But it has not affected the luxury sector of the market as much as the middle-of-the-road market," he commented.

Mr Currie added that many holidaymakers are now seeking locations which are able to provide education as well as entertainment.

People who are considering holidays to South Africa may wish to think about booking flights to Johannesburg, which can be used as a base to pursue activities such as caged shark diving and diving with crocodiles at Cango Ranch outside Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo.Meet the editors...
