Lufthansa scoops top aviation awardGerman-based airline Lufthansa has been voted the best airline in Europe in a survey of over 15 million passengers.

The carrier won the accolade after a study carried out by aviation research organisation Skytrax from August 2007 to June 2008.

Some 168 airlines were evaluated across a number of categories, based on passenger responses to their services.

Lufthansa was found to have achieved highly for its check-in options, speed of baggage handling and in-flight services, including the choice of menus onboard.

Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa general manager for the UK and Ireland, said winning the award based on passenger recommendations alone was a great achievement.

"It proves once again that the majority of air travellers still demand the product offered by a full service long established airline that they can use with confidence," she remarked.

Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe in terms of overall passengers carried and offers flights to Cape Town, Johannesburg, India and Thailand, among other destinations.Meet the editors...
