Cape Town tourism 'will increase'

The number of people going on holidays to Cape Town will increase as a result of increased interest from the forthcoming football World Cup.

The number of people going on holidays to Cape Town will increase as a result of increased interest from the forthcoming football World Cup.

This is according to Mariette du Toit-Helmbold, chief executive of the city's tourism authority, who told the Business Report that this growth is already showing, with good arrival figures for the winter season and favourable occupancy rates for summer.

"We are confident that in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup and with the final draw scheduled to take place in Cape Town in December 2009, Cape Town will continue to experience positive growth," she remarked.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said in July that he is confident South Africa will make an excellent destination for the 2010 World Cup, commenting that the stadia are terrific.

Anyone interested in booking flights to South Africa for the World Cup may be interested to know that there are only 617 days until kick off as of today (October 1st).

Tickets for the matches will be available through Fifa in 2009.
