Lufthansa rolls out mobile passes from HeathrowGerman-based airline Lufthansa has announced it is to make travel more convenient for its passengers from London Heathrow in the form of mobile boarding passes.

As of October 13th, people will be able to use the barcode passes on flights to a number of destinations, with more likely to follow once the scheme proves successful.

Travellers book their flights online, then receive a barcode to their mobile. They then use this to pass through security, as well as to board the plane without a paper ticket.

Lufthansa general manager Marianne Sammann said: "I am sure this new service will prove to be invaluable, particularly to business travellers, making their journeys simpler, more flexible and more convenient."

Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe in terms of overall passengers carried and offers flights to Cape Town, Johannesburg, India and Thailand, among other destinations.

Last month, it was voted the best airline in Europe in a survey of over 15 million passengers by Skytrax.
