Britons want Christmas holiday destinations to be a bit BritishWhile many people from the UK will choose to go on holiday over Christmas this year, a large proportion will opt for destinations that have a British feel, for example by booking holidays to South Africa, it has been claimed.

According to a spokesperson from the Association of Independent Tour Operators, this is because people still want the festive season to be fairly traditional, even though they may not want the cold weather of a British Christmas.

"Even though we're away from home, people still want the feeling of home. Places in South Africa like Cape Town are always quite popular, with great weather, hotels and great value to be had. There are certain towns that have a British feel," the source said.

According to the Office for National Statistics, ten million British people visited parts of the world other than the US and Europe in the 12 months up to August 2008.
