The Kruger National Park will celebrate its 110th anniversary in 2009 and this could be an ideal time to experience its tranquillity and its wide range of wildlife.

Approximately the size of Wales, the park is home to 34 species of amphibian and 114 species of reptiles, as well as baboons, hyena, lions, elephants, wildebeast and rhinos, Ramblers Worldwide attests.

The park was established in 1899 by president Paul Kruger and is the world's largest national park.

Last month, Brook Wilkinson, writing for MSNBC.com, said that January could be a good time for Britons to visit South Africa, since this is the best time to glimpse animal babies.

This is also the country's summertime and temperatures could reach 26 degrees C, according to the BBC, which is likely to be good news for people fed up with the cold British winter.
