Holidays to South Africa, Thailand, Dubai increaseMore travellers are choosing holidays in South Africa, Thailand and Dubai as the popularity of US travel decreases, new figures have shown.

According to statistics from the National Air Traffic Services released this week, flights to America have dropped by ten per cent as the sterling's slump affects the value of trans-Atlantic holidays.

However, other long-haul destinations are still popular, with people from the UK opting for the above destinations in droves.

Lee Hayhurst, spokesman for Travel Trade Gazette, told the Times: "People are looking for value and hedging their bets."

People looking for a far-flung destination that won't break the bank could consider booking cheap flights to Thailand and going on a conservation holiday, staying with other eco-conscious tourists to cut costs.

Meanwhile, Matt Rudd of the Sunday Times recently pointed out that the value of the rand against the pound makes South Africa a great destination for value holidays.
