Cape Town 'a top city to visit'

Anyone going on holidays to South Africa should ensure they stay in or at least visit Cape Town, it has been suggested.

Anyone going on holidays to South Africa should ensure they stay in or at least visit Cape Town, it has been suggested.

City guide publisher DK Eyewitness Travel named the city in a list of its top places to visit for 2009 thanks to its great investment in tourist infrastructure.

It pointed out that with the city hosting the football World Cup tournament in 2010, a host of new developments will spring up next year, including Africa's first Nobu restaurant and a refurbished Cape Town station.

"Cape Town looks set to raise its tourist game in 2009. Add this to the world famous vista, outdoor activities and affordable prices due to the exchange rate and it's a good time to visit," the guide said.

Earlier this month, RTE Money commented that December could be the ideal time to take holidays to South Africa as the country will be in celebration mode thanks to it being the summer holidays there.
