Virgin cuts prices in fuel surcharge decrease

Good news for people on flights to South Africa among other destinations - Virgin Atlantic has announced that it is to reduce its fuel surcharges.

The carrier said that sustained prices in the price of crude oil have resulted in lower business costs, which it will now pass on to its customers.

As of yesterday (December 18th), fuel surcharges were cut by up to £70 on a return flight, depending on the class and the destination.

Economy passengers will pay £30 less (one way) on long-haul routes, such as those to Johannesburg and Cape Town, while costs will fall by £15 on short-haul routes.

Virgin Atlantic also announced decreases in fuel charges in October, when a spokesperson told the Telegraph: "We keep our fuel surcharges under constant review and will adjust them as and when we feel it is appropriate to do so."

Meanwhile, in September it was reported that Virgin passengers travelling Upper Class from Terminal 3 at Heathrow will now be able to get through the check-in process in 40 minutes.
