Travellers reminded to follow air travel rulesPeople going abroad this week and next - including those on holidays to South Africa and Australia - have been urged to remember that baggage restrictions still apply for air travel.

Fiona Carleton, security spokesperson for Gatwick Airport, said that December 27th and 28th are set to be the busiest upcoming days for travel from the hub, but that people not following the rules could be causing unnecessary delays.

"Restrictions apply to all liquids – including Christmas presents – and I strongly encourage passengers to come prepared so that our operational staff can provide the best possible service to all," she warned.

Anyone carrying presents to friends and family abroad should remember that liquids must be carried in containers no larger than 100ml and that presents in hand luggage should not be wrapped as they may need to be inspected by security.

Earlier this week, the Association of British Travel Agents said that three million people are to jet off on holiday over the Christmas and new year period.
